Bio

Dr. Lee Zimmer, MD, PhD, is a fellowship trained surgeon who focuses on minimally invasive surgery for benign and malignant tumors of the skull base and sinuses, acute and chronic sinusitis, nasal obstruction, and nose bleeds. Having returned to his hometown of Cincinnati in 2005 to join the faculty at the UC, Dr. Zimmer developed the endoscopic cranial base program at the University of Cincinnati. A bright example of teamwork, the program combines the talents of ENT, Neurosurgery, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, and Ophthalmology. Since that time, the program has welcomed national and international recognition for clinical and academic excellence in skull base surgery.

Dr. Zimmer’s passion lies in a thorough understanding of sinus, skull base and neuro-anatomy.  With a background in neuro-anatomy, Dr. Zimmer and his team have published numerous anatomical and clinic manuscripts pertaining to sinus and skull base surgery to improve the understanding, safety and efficacy of these approaches. The quality of this work has been well received with invitations to national and international meetings and as guest professorships for anatomical courses.  For Dr. Zimmer, numerous hours in the anatomy lab elevates a surgeon from being competent to a master of their field.

Dr. Zimmer grew up in a small business family on the West Side of Cincinnati. After attending  St. Xavier High School, he obtained his college degree at the University of Michigan and a combined MD, PhD at the University of Maryland in neuro-anatomy and physiology. He then completed his Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery training and fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Cranial Base Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh in 2005. He is proud of receiving the opportunity to bring his talents back to his hometown of Cincinnati.

Married with two children, Dr. Zimmer spends time outside of work on the soccer field coaching his children. He served on the Clifton Soccer Board for four years. He and his wife currently run the soccer program at their children’s grade school.
