Ralph Giannella is Mark Brown Professor of Medicine in the Division of Digestive Diseases at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He was Director of the division from 1980 until July 2003. Dr. Giannella is a distinguished scientist and an international authority on intestinal infections, food-borne illness, and diarrheal disease.
He was president of the Gastroenterology Research Group (GRG) andpresident of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) in 1999-2000. In 2005, he was awarded the Friedenwald medal by the AGA, its highest honor. In 2009, he was given the Masters in Gastroenterology Award for lifetime achievement. In 2011 he was named to several lists, including 25 Great Physicians in Ohio, Top 75 Gastroenterologists in America, and Best Doctors in America.
