Partners in Personalized Patient Care
Members of UC Health Digestive Diseases collaborate with specialists in the University of Cincinnati department of surgery, pediatric GI specialists at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and clinicians in various other areas to provide a high level of multidisciplinary care in the areas of pancreas diseases, liver disorders, inflammatory bowel disease and interventional endoscopy. This multidisciplinary approach to medicine leads to better results and more compassionate care for our patients.
Personal Experience Leads to Exceptional Care
UC Health Digestive Disease physician Richard Rood, MD, has used his personal experience with ulcerative colitis as a backdrop for the compassionate and specialized care that he gives to patients at the UC Health Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program. Dr. Rood has been living with ulcerative colitis, a form of IBD, since the age of 10. He works with colleagues in UC Health Digestive Diseases, as well as physicians at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, to create a comprehensive treatment network, helping patients of all ages receive optimal care and manage their disease on their own.
Hepatology Experts Providing Care for Kidney, Liver and Pancreas Disease
Along with gastroenterological issues, some UC Health Digestive Disease physicians also specialize in hepatology, which focuses on conditions of the liver, gallbladder, billiary tree and pancreas. Kenneth Sherman, MD, PhD, chair of the division of Digestive Diseases in the department of Internal Medicine, is a national leader in hepatology and leads several research studies and clinical trials that intend to advance the science and treatment of hepatological disorders. With his colleagues Syed Hussain, MD, and Stephen Zucker, MD, Dr. Sherman is using discovery driven medicine to bring advanced treatments to patients in the Greater Cincinnati area. UC Health hepatologists also partner with our transplant surgeons to run the liver transplant program at UC Health University Hospital.
