Islet Cell Transplantation Gives Hope to Patients with Pancreatitis
UC Health Pancreatic Disease Center is one of only two centers in the national that regularly performs islet cell transplantations. Performed when removal of the pancreas is the best option, autologous islet cell transplantation allows a patient to be treated for the pain of pancreatitis without the serious debilitating side effects of a total pancreatectomy.
